At Compassionate Cancer Care we offer second opinions for patients and family members seeking a different point-of-view from our board certified hematologists and oncologists. Second opinions are recommended when there are concerns or questions about another physicians’ diagnosis, or when another physician recommends elective surgery or new treatments.
Many physicians recommend getting second opinions and/or patients are free to obtain a second opinion on their own initiative, with or without their first physicians’ knowledge. With the patient’s consent, the first physician should provide a history of the case and patients presentation.
When a patient initiates a second opinion, it is inappropriate for the primary physician to terminate the patient-physician relationship solely because of the patient’s decision to obtain a second opinion. Getting a second opinion is a common practice and we are happy to accommodate if desired.
